Who we are

Our Staff

Dave has been doing the pastor gig long enough to forget that he used to have a real job designing business processes. He has led small and medium-sized churches around America and in Asia. He's crazy about his two daughters and loves his wife more and more each day. He enjoys swimming, playing golf (albeit poorly) and reading, especially a good spy novel. Dave has a fascination with abiding in Jesus as well as the character, beauty, and love of his heavenly Father.

He grew up in a pastor’s home the youngest of nine brothers and sisters; at fourteen he knew God was calling him, and he responded with – ‘Lord send me anywhere you want; I just don’t want to be a pastor like my dad!’ Since then, he has stopped offering God conditions. Dave has a passion for soul care and spiritual direction, studing with Larry Crabb, and received a Master's degree in Christian counseling from Cairn University. His other passion is for God’s Word and the missional movement of the church around the world; to that end he studied Bible and world cultures at Columbia International University and is doing doctoral work at George Fox Evengelical Seminary studying contextualized ministry for God's displaced and global people scattered around the world.

Elise Hurd

Children's Minister

As a stay at home mom of four exuberant young daughters, Elise’s life is full of words! Needs! Feelings! Thoughts! Meals! Messes! Noise! And *lots* of seeking and communicating with Jesus to stay sane through it all.

Elise had no idea God was preparing her for children’s ministry when she became pregnant out of wedlock at 19 years old. God graciously used over 3 years of single motherhood to help her learn who He is, and how to raise her child to know her Heavenly Father who would never leave her. You can learn more about Elise’s journey growing in Christ and her family from her personal blog, The Giving Place.

Elise is passionate about teaching children how to communicate with God through questions, prayers, scripture, stories, and praise so they learn He is faithful to supply their every need. She loves to ignite life and light in them through the truth that they are incredibly wonderful and important * right now* simply for who they are, because Jesus loves them. She delights in helping children recognize and remember the personal activity of God in their everyday lives.

Elise believes that next to the Holy Spirit, children are some of the best teachers on the planet, and she is honored and humbled to be able to learn how to better love God and serve others through the example of your kids.

VeeJay Andres

Worship Arts Coordinator

Veejay has been with Alliance Bible Church in Baytown since she was four years old. She loves being involved in the arts, especially with music. If you have been to more than one service at Alliance, you might have seen her play a different instrument each week. She loves to see and know that God works even in the mundane things in our lives. Veejay tried to do the nursing route, but got a degree in Health Information Technology instead. She works as a barista at the Starbucks in Baytown (the one by Hobby Lobby). (She works in the mornings if you’d like to stop by and visit. :D) As a typical millennial, she is now asking the question of “what should be the next ‘big’ thing she does in her life now?” She knows that whatever it is, God will be the center of it and influence her day-to-day life. She considers herself a hipster-nerd where she might read a book, go to an arts museum, play video or board games, listen to records, or even learn about things of space or technology on different days or all in one day! Also, if you want to discover awesome places in Houston such as yummy food, coffee shops, or cool, artsy places, she is definitely the person to ask!

Post-it notes and Jesus hold Judy’s life together as she serves ABC as office administrator. She was hired in 1990 when she and her family moved to Baytown from the Midwest. Her heart still warms at the thought of her hometown, St. Paul, MN. Judy has been trained in healing prayer and ministers to individuals as God puts hurting people in her path. In her spare time, you will find her watching sports (Go, Texans! Go, Astros! Go, Rockets! ), reading, spending time with grandkids, and deepening her intimate relationship with chocolate. Oh, how sweet it is!
